Violence:
There is fighting on ship, sword fighting, but it doesnt get too graphic.
My comments on the book:
i really loved the book, actually i LOVE the whole series. I cant wait for the nexy book to come out, Caught. I Love every thing Margaret Peterson Haddix writes!!! I think she did a great job on this book!! :) Best way to describe it is this: Futuristic History...if you read the books, you'll get what i mean.
out of 1-5 its a: 5!!!
Its a book targeted for grades 5-8. But anyone can read them :D
Atlantis Complex by Eoin Colfer
7th book in the Artemis Fowl Series!!
Summary: SPOILER ALERT!! THIS IS 7th BOOK IN SERIES...THIS ALL REVIEW IS A SPOILER ALERT!! lol (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7005865-artemis-fowl)
Artemis has committed his entire fortune to a project he believes will save the planet and its inhabitants, both human and fairy. Can it be true? Has goodness taken hold of the world’s greatest teenage criminal mastermind? Captain Holly Short is unconvinced, and discovers that Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex, a psychosis common among guilt-ridden fairies -- not humans -- and most likely triggered by Artemis’s dabbling with fairy magic. Symptoms include obsessive-compulsive behavior, paranoia, multiple personality disorder and, in extreme cases, embarrassing professions of love to a certain feisty LEPrecon fairy.Unfortunately, Atlantis Complex has struck at the worst possible time. A deadly foe from Holly’s past is intent on destroying the actual city of Atlantis. Can Artemis escape the confines of his mind -- and the grips of a giant squid -- in time to save the underwater metropolis and its fairy inhabitants?
Christian Beliefs:
Nothing..at least i dont think :(
Other Beliefs:
Fairies..mythical creatures....Atlantis. Also (SPOILER ALERT) the number thing, that 4 equals death.
Also the mentions 'gods'
Bad words:
ok well....there was one or two mentions of the D-word. Also they say: D'Arvit..(im not sure if its a cuss word or what?) Also i think they used the Lord's name in vaine.
Other bad stuff:
They say alot of "OH, The gods!" and stuff like that.
Romance:
(SPOILER ALERT) Orion 'sweet talks' Holly Short. Turnball is controls his wife , making her do whatever he wants.
violence:
The space craft thing landing, lots of fire, killing all the LEP soldiers..and lots more ;) but none of it gets too graphic.
My comments on the book:
Once again im impressed by the creativity of Eoin Colfer. If you want to hear the truth, i love Artemis Fowl. Eoin Colfer is my favorite author and Artemis Fowl is THE BOMB!!! I've read this book twice, thats how good it is! sorry if i missed anything, i cant remember everything!! :)
out of 1-5 its a: 5!!!
Its a book targeted for Middle School-ers.. But adults can read them too! :D I don't totally suggest an elementry student to read it: #1. Because there are some bad words, #2 some of the concepts they may not get and #3 is because Eoin Colfer is a very descriptive writer (he uses some big words and since he is Irish, he uses words Americans may not be use to..).
Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. FIRST BOOK IN SERIES.
When eleven-year-old Gregor follows his little sister through a grate in the laundry room of their New York apartment, he hurtles into the dark Underland beneath the city. There, humans live uneasily beside giant spiders, bats, cockroaches, and rats—but the fragile peace is about to fall apart.
Gregor wants no part of a conflict between these creepy creatures. He just wants to find his way home. But when he discovers that a strange prophecy foretells a role for him in the Underland's uncertain future, he realizes it might be the only way to solve the biggest mystery of his life. Little does he know his quest will change him and the Underland forever.
Christian Beliefs:
...None. :'(
Other Beliefs:
a mythical world..a fortune teller wants to tell Gregor's future..
Bad Words:
Nada! Zip!
Romance:
none, really.
Violence:
Well, Suzanne Collins is pretty descriptive when it comes to violence. There is sword fights, several (main-ish) people die, and the mention of blood oozing out of someone or "blood dripping..." is used quite often.
My comments:
At first i didnt think i would enjoy this book but Suzanne Collins proved me wrong. I am a GIANT fan of Hunger Games so i really enjoyed reading more of her work! Normally i read more Sci-fi than Fantasy..but i really enjoyed this. I'm glad i got it for Christmas (Thanks, Santa) !! sorry if i forgot to mention anything, but generally, its a very *clean* book :D
1-5 its a: 4!
Unlike the Hunger Games, this book is targeted for a lower level...but that doesnt mean it isnt for Middle School-ers! this book is less gory (and has less romantic scenes..actually, none.) I say 4th-8th (maybe even 3rd grade, if you are a higher reader) could read it!
